Bank statement converter
Bank statements to Excel, CSV & QuickBooks
PDF in, clean rows out, checked against the statement’s own balances to the cent. Fix anything before you export. Your statement never leaves your browser.
Converted in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
Nothing uploaded
Files are read and converted in your browser, on your device.
Amounts checked to the cent
Opening + transactions = closing, and each running balance. Dates and currency are confirmed with you.
Fix before you export
Edit any date, description or amount, flip a sign, drop a line.
How it works
- 1
Drop the PDF statement
Download it from online banking first. Checking, savings and credit card statements all work; password-protected PDFs too.
- 2
Check the balance
Every transaction is listed with the result of the balance check. Fix anything that’s off right in the table.
- 3
Download Excel
Pick the date format you need in Export settings. Any other format is one click away too.
What it’s for
Catch-up bookkeeping
Months of PDF statements into QuickBooks, Xero or a spreadsheet, each one checked against its own balances before it reaches the books.
Loans, audits and tax
Every transaction in a spreadsheet, money in and out in their own columns, from the statements a lender, auditor or accountant asked for.
Any accounting app
QuickBooks Desktop and Online, Xero, Quicken, GnuCash and more: Excel, CSV, QBO, QFX, OFX, QIF or IIF from the same statement.
The awkward parts of real statements
Dates printed without a year get it from the statement period, even across New Year. Wrapped descriptions are joined, and card payments and purchases come out the right way round.
Every converter
PDF statements
Bank and credit card statements to spreadsheets and accounting files.
QuickBooks files
Into and out of QBO (Web Connect) and IIF.
Quicken, Excel & more
QFX, OFX and QIF to the format your app reads.
Questions, answered
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser: the file is read on your device and the download is built there too. It never reaches our server, so we can’t see it, keep it or lose it.
Is it free?
Yes, while BankToRows is in beta: no sign-up and no page limits.
What does the balance check mean?
Statements print an opening balance, a closing balance and often a running balance. After reading the transactions, the converter adds them up and compares: opening + money in − money out must equal closing, and each printed running balance must follow from the one before. A green check means everything adds up to the cent; anything else is shown with the rows to look at. It’s a check of the totals, not a guarantee: two mistakes that cancel out (a missed +100 and a missed −100) still add up, which is less likely when the statement prints a running balance on every line.
Which banks and statements work?
Any text-based statement, the kind you download from online banking: checking, savings and credit card. There are no per-bank templates to wait for; the converter finds the transaction table, its columns and the balances on its own. US, UK, Canadian and Australian date and amount formats are read, and dates printed without a year get it from the statement period.
QuickBooks Online reads PDF statements itself. Why use this?
It can read some statements. BankToRows is for when you want the rows checked against the statement’s printed balances before they reach your books, when you want to fix a date or amount first, when you use QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, Quicken or a spreadsheet, or when you’d rather the statement wasn’t uploaded anywhere.
Can it read scanned statements?
Not yet. A scan is a picture of text, which needs OCR. If you can select words in the PDF with your mouse, it isn’t a scan and it will convert.
How do I get the transactions into QuickBooks?
Download QBO (Web Connect) and import it, or download “CSV for QuickBooks” and upload it in QuickBooks Online. For QuickBooks Desktop’s IIF import, download IIF and set your account names first.
What about credit card statements?
They’re detected from the minimum payment or payment due date plus other card wording, like “credit limit”. Purchases become money out and payments money in, and QBO/QFX/OFX files are written as credit card statements. You can switch the account type above the table.
